Ten years ago, Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County premiered on MTV.
Following the high school drama of L.C., her BFF Lo and her frenemy Kristin, the series lasted three years, and morphed into several other successful spinoffs — including The Hills, and The City.
But it wasn’t just a reality show. It actually was a partial trend-setter.
In the second season premiere — titled “Since You’ve Been Gone” — Stephen picks L.C. up, and “Don’t Stop Believin'” is playing in his car. The episode aired on July 25, 2005 — nearly two years before The Sopranos faded to black using the same song, and almost four years before Glee made its version popular.
So thank you, Laguna Beach, for bringing that song into our lives long before we were sick of it.
