This weekend is an especially significant one in New York City — in addition to being NYC Pride, it’s the 50th anniversary of the riots at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, an event that many credit with sparking the modern LGBTQ rights movement. Many musicians are marking the occasions with performances, speeches or messages of support on social media.
Lady Gaga delivered a passionate speech at Stonewall on Friday (June 28), declaring she would “take a bullet” for the LGBTQ community, while Nicki Minaj reflected on her first Pride performance in Atlanta and Brandi Carlile took to social media to “commemorate the brave activists who encouraged a generation to fight for change.”
Check out all the posts below.
I did my 1st pride concert in ATL like 10 years ago & I’ll never, EVER get over it. The energy in the room was like nothing I’d ever experienced b4. — I thank you & love you for all the love & support you’ve shown me. God bless my babies.

Happy #PRIDE my friends! I know that some people reading this will have endured a lot of pain and struggle in their life purely for the freedom to be themselves. I’m full of respect and admiration for you, because it takes a type of bravery most of us may never have to summon. 1 pic.twitter.com/1bbNa3khAk

Happy pride to everyone, yes, everyone. On days like this we laugh, stand proud, share our peccadillos, fashion triumphs and mistakes. We ask for tolerance and we give tolerance. We were perfectly created and we are perfectly creative. Not better. Not worse. Just ‘Other! #Pride
