Lady Gaga and her mother Cynthia Germanotta founded the Born This Way Foundation in 2012 with “the goal of creating a kinder and braver world.” On Wednesday (Sept. 26), the pop star’s mom spoke at the United Nations General Assembly on behalf of the organization to discuss mental health and launch a new initiative.
Germanotta announced the United for Global Mental Health, which according to it’s Twitter page, makes mental health a priority and hopes for “a world where everyone, everywhere, can turn to someone who is able to support their mental health when needed.”
I am excited for what we’ll accomplish together after today’s @UnitedGMH launch. The time is now to act on mental health + ensure it is a global priority. That means working in our homes, schools, businesses, + gov’ts. @btwfoundation + I are ready. Join us — #timetoactMH #UNGA pic.twitter.com/rknoLgqqhe

Gaga herself took to Twitter to show support for her mom and the organization, being an active mental health advocate since the start of her career. Back in June, she got real about her own struggles with mental health while receiving Global Changemakers Award at Children Mending Hearts’ Empathy Rocks fundraiser in Bel Air, California.
I’m so proud of my mother speaking at #UNGA today on behalf of @btwfoundation. Let’s make mental health a global priority and teach the world the importance of kindness. https://t.co/Og60ixvoPw
