Lady Gaga is employing any and every format to promote her just-released album, “Born This Way.” The latest? A 90-second commercial for Google’s Chrome web browser you may have caught when it aired Sunday night (May 22) during the 2011 Billboard Music Awards.
The clip features Gaga using the Internet to direct fans to dance and sing along to her single “The Edge of Glory,” which hit iTunes earlier this month and debuted at No. 3 on last week’s Hot 100. After the pop star is shown sending messages to her fans and encouraging them to record their own take on “Glory,” the ad reads, “Lady Gaga, Mother Monster: the web is what you make of it.”
Earlier in the month, rumors were flying that Google was going to launch its cloud music service through some kind of partnership with today’s album launch. During a visit to Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, Calif. in March, the singer plugged Google Moderator, a tool her fans use to submit text or video questions.
Before the ad ran, Gaga popped up at the Billboard Music Awards in a taped tribute to Beyoncé, who was given the Billboard Millennium Award at the ceremony. “You are so much more than just a pop star or an icon,” Gaga told her “Video Phone” collaborator. “You represent the dream.”
