Any visitor or resident of Los Angeles is constantly confronted with the homelessness crisis affecting the thousands of people living on the city’s streets. It’s a heartbreaking situation that can seem beyond repair, but the annual benefit LA Gives Back has been addressing the issue since 2016 through their signature event, a one-night affair featuring some of the world’s best DJs and electronic musicians.
While this year’s lineup is under wraps until the day of the event, Dec. 18, the IHeartComix-curated benefit is likely to include a plethora of extraordinary local and national talent (many of which cannot reveal their names on the lineup due to radius clauses). Past iterations of the charity event have included performances by Diplo, Bonobo, Boys Noize, Jpegmafia, Tokimonsta and many more.
The 2019 benefit features five rooms curated by some of LA’s most tastemaking dance music institutions, including IHeartComix, Brownies & Lemonade, Mad Decent and Spaceland. The Dec. 18 party will be preceded by a dinner and party on Dec. 11 at the Soho Warehouse.
“LA Gives Back is exactly that, our community giving back,” says IHeartComix founder Franki Chan. “After the success of the last three years, we’ve decided to make this an annual institution and expand the giving. It’s so cool that so many of LA’s top music curators and creative talent can come together and produce a series of events that draws attention to a huge crisis in our community.”
Alongside the performances, an auction will be held at the benefit with items donated by artists including Diplo and Billie Eilish, comedian Eric Andre and the Los Angeles Dodgers. 100 percent of all proceeds raised at the auction and via ticket sales will benefit the local homelessness-related charities Downtown Women’s Center and My Friend’s Place. In the past three years, LA Gives Back has donated over $200,000 to local charities.
