Who knew Doctor Strange could line dance? Well, he sort of can. When Kylie Minogue sat down with James Corden and Benedict Cumberbatch on The Late Late Show Monday (April 30), the Australian singer, who was there to discuss her new country and pop-infused album Golden, proved to both of them that she is more than just an infectious songwriter.
Corden pointed out that in Minogue’s music video for “Dancing,” the singer is seen dominating a choreographed line dancing routine. “You are a very, very good dancer,” Corden said. “Is there any way you’d be able to teach us a little bit of that line dancing?”
Minogue gave a confident smirk and was quick to agree. All three of them stood up, with Cumberbatch visibly a bit nervous. After a quick tutorial, and some goofy improvised dancing by Cumberbatch, the music swelled. At first Cumberbatch and Corden struggled to keep up with the routine. “Ok, one more time!” Corden called out, desperate to nail the moves before commercial break.
In the final 30 seconds, both Corden and Cumberbatch were able to dance confidently alongside Minogue, who ended with a celebratory, “Yeehoo!”
In addition to teaching line dancing, and discussing the awkward time she met Dolly Parton, Minogue also took the stage to perform her song “Dancing.” Golden lights shimmered off a rotating disco ball as a guitar gently began to play the track’s opening chords. “It’s so beautiful here, I wanna move in. Can I move in, James?” Minogue called out. The audience erupted into applause as Minogue gave a glowing smile before diving into the song.
