How many times have you heard of a producer who hid his or her identity because they wanted the music to speak for itself? As the DJ becomes more and more of a spectacle, artists are increasingly choosing to hang back in the shadows. But today (May 19), KUURO takes the opposite stand.
The bass-heavy mystery from Monstercat steps out of the shroud, and it turns out, it’s two dudes; Jordin Post and Luke Shipstad.
“When we started working on KUURO, we wanted to make sure we had our own distinguished sound,” Post says in an emailed statement. “We spent about a year working on it before we even released any music. We wanted to truly refine the project.”
KUURO’s debut track “Aamon” hypnotized fans with a bass-heavy sound tinged with Asian influence and trap textures. With official remixes for Galantis and Dillon Francis behind it, KUURO is confident enough in its musical identity to put its faces in the game.
The duo commemorates the outing with “Possession.” With a cinematic open and lots of heavy boom, it’s got the kind of mean bass face that screams festival tune. It’s definitely suited for a large crowd looking to rumble. “Possession” is officially out today on Monstercat.
