Welcome to Style Council, a new monthly feature where The Hook profiles music’s new generation of fashion influencers.
From the minute her debut video, ‘Gucci Gucci,’ hit the web, Oakland MC Kreayshawn turned heads not only for her quirky flow, but also for her around-the-way girl, cartoon couture style. “I look to the old school a lot,” says Kreayshawn (né Natassia Zolot). “Some old school Madonna for sure. But as far as anything current I think I’m just doing my own thing.”

    “My first one on my neck. I was 15 and my sister was getting a tattoo at this place that did underage tattoos. So I was like, screw that, 20 bucks? I’m getting one too, man.”

    “I got this one in Paris– this one’s cool, cause we were doing a photo shoot and one of the guys with us in Paris did tattoos, and I was like, you should tattoo me while I do the photo shoot! I couldn’t think of anything at the time but a chicken wing. Ain’t no thang but a chicken wang.”

    “Then I got the tangerine popsicle right there, that’s from my grandpa– he’s obsessed with tangerine popsicles. He’ll go to the supermarket and buy like 6 boxes of tangerine popsicles. He’s insane.”

    “Then we got Daisy Duck with a 22 and smoking. I think it’s one of my favorite tattoos. A lot of tattoos I just get when I’m really high. You know, you just think of something great and you’re like, I’m gonna go get that right now. Last minute decision.”

    “I always wanted a Hello Kitty tattoo, but I didn’t wanna have a basic one so I told my friend to draw a little day of the dead Hello Kitty. I need to get it touched up.”

“So you know I had braces, I was lucky cause I had some snaggle teeth. I always try and keep my retainer on me cause I’m paranoid about my teeth. It was run over by a car so half of it’s missing, but it still works.”

“My blinged out lighter I actually got in Wichita, Kansas. A fan came up to me and she was like, ‘I made this for you and I want you to have it!'”

“I don’t really like that fake graffiti, but it was Hello Kitty so I was like, whatever. I’m gonna paint over it and add my own stuff so it’ll be cool.”

“The limited edition tie-dye White Girl Mob shirt. Very limited. I don’t know where the other ones went, they disappeared. I saved one and my sister tie-dyed it for me.”
