How do you know when your A.I. has become sentient? In the case of the Kloud corporation, it’s when said A.I. breaks through its holding cell and blasts filter-bass dubstep in the evil scientists’ faces.
Here at Billboard Dance, we love a good fictional backstory, and this emergent masked producer has a good one. The “Exit Alive” video tells an origin story rife with dystopia and deception. According to a press release, the Kloud megacorporation controls society via “simulated experiences,” and Kloud, the being, is an A.I. developed by the company to aid in this evildoing. He becomes a little too conscious, however, and begins composing music as a means to express his growing internal conflict.
Previously released singles are meant to show this growing tension, and in “Exit Alive,” Kloud finally breaks through mental and physical barriers to overwhelm his devious creators. The video is highly cinematic with stark use white walls and the high-contrast blacks of Kloud’s figure. There are some sexy robot ladies swimming around in pills, which seems to be a metaphor for all this mind control. The scientist lady looks like a real witch, and the hard filter dubstep drop is serious headbang material.
This is only the beginning of Kloud’s story. More music videos are on the way as Kloud continues to explore his strange, technological world. Stay tuned for what’s to come, and check out the striking video for “Exit Alive” below.
