The Kings of Leon guys have a new album, “Mechanical Bull,” to promote, but the quartet took a break from its muscular Southern rock stylings to cover Robyn’s electro-pop classic “Dancing On My Own” on Tuesday (Sept. 10) for BBC’s Radio 1. Watch below:
For the cover, Kings of Leon slows down the tempo and injects some meaty guitar riffs into the track, which, of course, is about dance floor dejection. Caleb Followill’s signature growl is in full effect, and when his “Whoa-oh-oh’s” echo on the chorus, the singer recalls those epic “Use Somebody” flare-ups.
“Mechanical Bull” is due out on Sept. 24, and lead single “Supersoaker” clocked in at No. 10 on last week’s Alternative chart. Robyn, meanwhile, is heartbreakingly “nowhere near finished” her next album.
