Kinga Siennicka has been promoted to managing director of Warner Music Poland, replacing Piotr Kabaj, who Billboard understands has left the company. Kabaj was also president of Warner Music Eastern Europe.
Based in Warsaw, Siennicka will report to Alfonso Perez-Soto, executive vp Warner Music executive vp, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa. She has served as Warner’s vice chair of marketing and promotion in the region since 2013.
“Taking up the leadership of our company in Poland is a real privilege,” said the exec, who started out her major label career at EMI in 1995. She rose through the ranks to become vp marketing for Central and Eastern Europe and promotion director for Poland.
When EMI Poland became part of Warner Music Group in 2013, Siennicka remained in the post, overseeing marketing activities for the label. Her new role will see her responsible for building Warner’s share of the domestic market as it transitions from physical to streaming.
To date, that’s been a rather slow process with streaming representing only 24 percent of label revenues in Poland last year, according to IFPI’s Global Music Report 2019, which places the country at No. 22 in the world rankings.
Total label earnings were $114 million in 2018. Of the 21 countries IFPI ranks above Poland, only one (Japan) has a smaller share of streaming income. Warner hopes the potential for future growth will see the market steadily rise in the years ahead.
“It’s an exciting time for the development of our business in Poland as we increase investment in local artists and grow the presence there of our global stars,” said Perez-Soto, congratulating Siennicka on her promotion.
Local artists signed to Warner Music Poland include Sylwia Grzeszczak, Mela Koteluk and Mary Komasa.
