Pop-rock trio King The Kid have mastered the art of the viral cover song — the group’s YouTube takes on Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” and Taylor Swift’s “22” have garnered a combined 8 million views, with revamps of songs by Macklemore, One Direction and Fall Out Boy also accruing hundreds of thousands of views. King The Kid also has a knack for crafting catchy original cuts, however, with new single “Last Train” previewing their upcoming, still-untitled album.

Produced by the band and Adam Sliger, “Last Train” finds King The Kid harnessing the energy they poured into their cover songs for a fun, three-minute pop blast. Of course, the lyric clip doesn’t have quite as much nude swinging and sledgehammer licking as the group’s “Wrecking Ball” parody:
“For ‘Last Train,’ the music came first,” says frontman David Michael Frank, who composes King The Kid with Ricky Ficarelli and Jose Mostajo. “When it came down to writing lyrics we knew we wanted something that we had experienced while still being a relatable topic. It’s about a long-distance relationship, and the final moments of being together before the last goodbye and leaving each other’s side. Being in a band that travels often, we’ve all been there, and the song wrote itself pretty effortlessly.”
King The Kid will take “Last Train” on the road while opening for Hollywood Ending on a tour that kicks off on Feb. 6. The trio will also head to Melbourne, Australia next month for the EXPLOAD! Music Festival on Mar. 8.
