Kim Kardashian West continued her push for prison reform on Wednesday (July 24) with a visit to a D.C.-area lockup to spend time with Momolu Stewart, who appeared alongside Saul Williams in the 1988 movie Slam.
As first reported by People magazine, Kardashian West spent time with Stewart, who was 17 years-old and awaiting trial on a first-degree murder charge at the time the film was awaiting release.
“Making power moves from the inside with my sister @kimkardashian,” Stewart wrote on Instagram in the caption to a snap with Kardashian. “My next move is even bigger, and I’m thinking five steps ahead.” Stewart has appealed his conviction but remains in prison.
Kardashian West has been advocating for prison reform this year, visiting prisons, writing petitions for clemency to governors and, last year, meeting at the White House with Pres. Trump after successfully petitioning for the commutation of a life sentence for Alice Marie Johnson, a nonviolent drug offender. The reality star recently said she’s begun a four-year apprenticeship with a law firm with her sights set on taking the bar exam in 2022.
The day also included a visit to the Georgetown Prison Scholars Program at the DC jail, which led to a thank you from the Georgetown University Prisons & Justice Initiative for her work. “Thank you @KimKardashian for coming to speak to the Georgetown Prison Scholars Program at the DC Jail yesterday!” it read. “You are a true criminal justice warrior. Your passion and compassion inspire the world to see the humanity of the incarcerated.”
Thank you Dr. Howard. You are such a blessing to everyone inside and they need you! All prisons need this program and people like you https://t.co/lurSz2xKuJ
