G.O.O.D. Music rapper Kid Cudi took to his Twitter over the weekend to announce his split with managers Patrick “Plain Pat” Reynolds and Emile Haynie, as well as the demise of previous joint label Dream On and plans to launch a new record house.
“Dream on is over,” Cudi tweeted, “new label announcement soon.”
Kid Cudi continued by explaining the reason the threesome decided to part ways as well as what the future holds for them. “Pat and Emile are doing their own thing, i wish them well. I have a diff vision, for music, for the world. im just doing the right thing, i come from a different place. people lose sight of the mission. cant expect everyone to be built like me. when people have different visions, you gotta go your own way.”
While Cudi’s tweets made the split appear mutual and cordial, just the day before he’d posted a tweet that bloggers were deeming as shots towards his former managers. “makin changes, new number, new email, starting fresh. lettin go of all things holding me back,” he wrote. “if u have my contacts, dont hit them after today. if i havnt hit u by now to tell u, good knowing u and i wish u well. feels good to start over, opening a new chapter … focused on my empire, focused on love, focused on family. if your not in that equation, byeeeeeeee. fans, i will contact u thru song :)”
While on Dream On, which Cudi started with Reynolds and Haynie in partnership with Kanye West‘s G.O.O.D. Music and Universal Motown, Kid Cudi released his first two albums, “Man on the Moon: The End of Day” (2009) and “Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager” (2010). Although Cudi parted ways with Reynolds and Haynie, he assured his fans that his relationship with West and his G.O.O.D. Music imprint will remain.
“always f—-n with yeezy, for life. period. a true friend.” he tweeted. “GOOD music affiliate for life. as far as my movement, i have to lead it. cant expect people to have the same morals as me … iam still with GOOD music, with that being said im just changin my side of things up a bit. so it will be ?/GOOD. still distributed through Motown.”
As far as the new direction of the music goes, Cudi said the vision remains the same, except it will reflect more of his own personal taste. He also said the new label, which has a new name that he wouldn’t reveal, will be started in conjuction with longtime collaborator Dot Da Genius.
“the jams will be the same,” he wrote, “but more real and true to me. the new label will be formed with @DotDaGenius. i have a new name [for the label], i just wanna lock it in contractually first.
“this is a day to rejoice, this isnt bad news,” he concluded. “things are gonna be so epic, im like a kid on xmas eve im so excited bout this new chapter.”
