Fresh off a national headlining tour and a limited engagement on the road with Mumford & Sons, R&B singer-songwriter Kevin Garrett is exclusively premiering the music video for his single “Stranglehold” on Billboard. Shot by frequent music photographer Shervin Lainez, the video features a distorted Garrett against a white background somberly singing the lyrics of the song, which is featured on his False Hope EP.
The video serves as the third and final installment of the visual series from False Hope; the videos for “Little Bit of You” and “Pulling Me Under” — both with a similar setting and vibe — were released within the last three weeks.
“The ‘Stranglehold’ visual is more of a moving portrait than a video,” says Garrett. “Shervin did a really good job embodying the sort of self reflection in the meaning of the song, and I think it’s a really nice way to cap off this trilogy of visuals I released for the False Hope EP.”
The video plays around with overlays and varying monochromatic background colors to give the desired portrait effect, serving as a contrast to the vivid colors featured in the previous two videos.
