Kesha is gearing up for the 2020 presidential elections with one question in mind: “What if rich, white, straight men didn’t rule the world anymore?”
Her new song, “Rich, White, Straight Men,” unveiled on Monday (June 3) envisions a world without our current political leaders. “And if you are a boy who loves a boy/You’ll get a wedding cake and all/And if you are a lady and you do your lady work/Then you will make as many dollars as the boys/Not just two thirds,” she chants over sounds of coins hitting the ground and cashiers opening, a reference to the money-driven political climate.
The bridge takes melody from the childhood favorite, “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star,” as she muses “Twinkle, twinkle little star/How I wish the world was different/Where who you love and who you are/Was nobody’s f—ing business.”
