Kendrick Lamar‘s To Pimp a Butterfly is sitting atop the Billboard 200 for a second week, but the Compton rapper recently revealed that’s not the only good news in his life: He’s engaged to Whitney Alford, the girl he’s been dating since high school.
When K.Dot stopped by NYC’s Breakfast Club radio show this morning (April 3), the hosts asked if the rumors about his engagement were true. “Yeah definitely,” he said. “I’m loyal to the soil. At the end of the day you want to always have real people around you, period — whether male or female.”

When Lamar spoke with Billboard for our January cover story, he rejected calling Alford his girlfriend.
“I wouldn’t even call her my girl,” he said. “That’s my best friend. I don’t even like the term that society has put in the world as far as being a companion — she’s somebody I can tell my fears to.”
Congrats to the high school sweethearts.
