After Kendrick Lamar appeared on Prince‘s Paisley Park live stream last October, the twosome hit the studio together. But apparently time wasn’t on their side, the rapper revealed in an interview this week. And now fans will never hear what they cooked up together.
“We was vibing, but we was pressed, man,” Kendrick told Hot 97, Consequence of Sound reports.
While the session may not have resulted in a track, it did teach the rapper a valuable lesson or two.
“I didn’t trip over getting a song done. I really appreciate the actual game he was giving me. He took control of his music,” he said. “He was breaking down some things that I need to consider in my career.”
That’s not the only track fans won’t get to hear from Lamar anytime soon. Last week, To Pimp A Butterfly producer Terrace Martin confirmed that the untitled track that Lamar performed on The Colbert Report last December will not be released anytime soon. “It don’t even exist nowhere in the world, except on The Colbert Report,” Martin said.
