Kelly Clarkson has had a tough go this year fighting tour-ending vocal strain and near-crippling morning sickness as she’s tried to promote her latest album Piece by Piece. But Thursday morning (Nov. 19) the former Idol singer is back at it, releasing a new music video for her album’s title track.

The black-and-white video features Clarkson singing into the camera about two important men in her life — her father, who abandoned Clarkson’s family when she was young, and her husband Brandon Blackstock.
“And all I remember is your back/Walking towards the airport, leaving us all in your past,” the song begins. The lyrics alternate between reckoning with Clarkson’s abandonment by her father and then having her faith restored when she met Blackstock, of whom she sings, “Piece by piece you restored my faith/That a man could be kind and a father could stay.” Clarkson told CBS’ Gayle King this week, “My husband came into my life and he was the complete opposite of how my father was.”

The video also features images of mothers and daughters, and ends on Clarkson holding her own adorable baby daughter with Blackstock, River Rose, who gives her mother a sweet kiss, ensuring no eyes are left dry.
