Kelly Clarkson laments about being “My Own Worst Enemy” with her Lit-inspired Kellyoke cover on Tuesday (Sept. 28).
Clarkson brought the 1999 alternative smash to life on her Daytime Emmy-winning talk show, which recently kicked off its third season. While Lit’s original track spells out the band’s drunken regrets from the night before that spill into the morning after, the pop superstar performed the song with the same amount of passion but with less resentment and a little more zeal.
“It’s no surprise to me, I am my own worst enemy/ ‘Cause every now and then, I kick the living sh– out of me/ Can we forget about the things I said when I was drunk?/ I didn’t mean to call you that,” she belted.
“My Own Worst Enemy” was released as the lead single from Lit’s 1999 sophomore album A Place in the Sun. The song peaked at No. 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached No. 1 on Billboard‘s Alternative Airplay tally.
