“This doesn’t happen to Owasso, Oklahoma people,” 16-year-old The Voice contestant Gracee Shriver joyfully noted after her cover of “Rainbow” by Kacey Musgraves caught the attention of two coaches on Monday night’s (Oct. 14) episode.
The fight for Shriver began to take shape, as Kelly Clarkson stepped in. The pair found some common ground. Yes, they both love country. And they both dig Kelsea Ballerini. At one point, Shriver recounted seeing Kelly’s concert in Tulsa where Kelsea opened.
“That is so interesting,” Kelly quipped, oozing confidence in a Team Clarkson win.
“It’s interesting that she loves your opening act?” Blake added.
Then Gwen made her pitch. “Gracee, this is meant to be. “He’s from Oklahoma,” she said, pointing to Blake. “I go to Sooners, I go to Old Red, I go to Lake Texoma,” Clarkson explained. “The point is that your voice is a character voice. I almost got chills because it was such a unique sound.”
Shelton’s team is full, but the country star said that there’s still a “great opportunity for you to be in the family.”
“I’m not dating Blake,” Clarkson said, “but my husband manages him. I don’t have that kind of in, but I have the industry in. And that’s what y’all are wanting. I feel like I’m gonna go nuts if you don’t pick me, that’s it!”
