Earlier this month, Marshmello and Bastille got together with the full band for an acoustic version of “Happier.” It was a stripped-down arrangement that brought out the ballad in the song’s lyrics, an ode to the emotional depth of the song’s message usually brightened by Marshmello’s pop-facing electronic melodies.
We don’t know if country star Keith Urban was inspired by that version or if he immediately connected with the single’s hidden softness, but he brought his own soul to it during a recent acoustic cover, recorded live in the KIIS1065 studio in Sydney, Australia. Urban’s take is arresting. It set a hush over the whole studio. You might shed a tear or two.
Marshmello seems touched by the cover, sharing the clip on twitter and taking the top comment on the YouTube post.
