A month after she was reportedly put on a psychiatric hold after attempting to harm herself, Kehlani returned on Tuesday night with a new, uplifting single, “24/7.” The DZL-produced song opens with the self-affirming lyrics, “It’s OK to not be OK/ To dive in your pain/ And it’s alright to not be alright, to search for your light,” sung in a breathy voice over the robotic, stuttering beat.
Kehlani Says She’s ‘Home & Healthy’ After Reported Psychiatric Hold
The song seems like a pump up track for Kehlani to feel better about her own struggles, but also a plea to others who are suffering through tough times to not be too hard on themselves. “You gotta lose you just a little/ Lose your cool just a little/ I won’t judge you a little/ Not even a little bit,” Kehlani sings in the pre-chorus, before diving into the reality check refrain: “I don’t know nobody/ Who thinks that they’re somebody/ 24/7, 24/ I don’t know nobody/ Who smiles at everybody/ 24/7, 24/7.”
