On Tuesday night (Apr. 23), Ke$ha fans will be given a revealing glimpse into the various ongoings of the pop star when a new docu-series, “Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life,” premieres on MTV. Filmed by her brother Lagan Sebert over the past two and a half years, “My Crazy Beautiful Life” details the making of Ke$ha’s sophomore album, “Warrior,” as well as the “Get Sleazy” headlining tour that followed her first two releases, “Animal” and “Cannibal.”
“It’s not glamorous at all, or scripted or anything,” Ke$ha tells Billboard of the docu-series. “We captured onstage, offstage, backstage, and all the emotions that go with that, both in my private life and in my public life. The drama — there is a lot of drama.”
The singer also says that she thinks fans won’t expect to see how serious she takes her stagecraft and recording career in “My Crazy Beautiful Life.” “I’m very well-known around the world for being a wild party animal — you see that too, don’t get me wrong,” she says. “But you also see me… reading the reviews and trying to make my show better, and rehearsing and going over the lights, and going over the choreography, and changing into costumes. I am so involved with every little thing I do. I think people are probably going to be surprised at how seriously I take everything I do.”
Last week, Ke$ha released her latest “Warrior” single: a new version of “Crazy Kids” featuring Will.i.am, who co-wrote the track. And while the 26-year-old is still reveling in the success of “Warrior,” which spawned the hits “Die Young” and “C’Mon” and has sold 252,000 copies to date according to Nielsen SoundScan, she’s also been working on some new “weirdo” music alongside Wayne Coyne and the Flaming Lips.
“He’s like one of my best friends. I really think he’s been a friend of mine for many lifetimes,” Ke$ha says of Coyne. “The second we met, it was just on. He wouldn’t leave my house. There was a day where we didn’t sleep, and we just made music and had the weirdest, wildest times ever. What you would expect from the Flaming Lips being at Ke$ha’s house? Anything you were thinking probably did actually happen.”

Although the Flaming Lips-Ke$ha collaboration has been given the working title “Lip$ha,” the pop star has no idea when the music will actually be released. “We just kind of fuck around whenever we get together — there’s no game plan,” she says. “There’s an entire track we did where we’re just making weird animal noises. This is shit that maybe no one’s ever going to hear. Maybe it should be that way. Maybe it’s terrible, but I like that kind of music where I get to be super, super weird.”
On the day before the premiere of “Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life,” the singer started rehearsals for her co-headlining spring tour with Pitbull, which kicks off on May 23 in Boston. Although she’s still sketching out ideas for her next trek, Ke$ha believes that it will rely on just as much improvisation as her “Get Sleazy” shows.
“What I’m doing is keeping the essence of my last tour, which is just wild, debauchery, raw, and more or less unplanned,” Ke$ha shares. “We have some planned moments, but I like having it where it’s a little bit less structured, because then I can do whatever I feel like, whenever it hits me. That was very much on my last tour, but now I’m just amping it up. I’m making [my show] bigger, better, funner, louder, brighter, with more pyro, more glitter, and more dancers, just more of everything. I very much agree with Dolly Parton that ‘more is more.'”
