At No. 48, Ke$ha comes back to the Social 50 chart for the first time since dropping from the list in March 2012. The return comes as she drums up online activity (16% rise in Facebook reaction) to generate buzz around her upcoming album, “Warrior” (due Dec. 4).
The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud, Wikipedia, Myspace and Instagram. The chart’s methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist pageviews, song plays and reactions.
Ke$ha fans are winning big through the Twitter and Instagram-driven #KESHAWARRIOR campaign. Fans are encouraged to join the movement by tweeting the hash tag, then heading to a website ( warrior.keshasparty.com) to participate in an Internet scavenger hunt and view exclusive behind the scenes content.
The promotion significantly boosted her followers on Instagram (8,600 added for the week, a 100% increase) as well as Twitter (up by 8,600; a 76% increase) and Facebook (102,000 new likes, up by 70%). The official music video for “Warrior’s” lead single, “Die Young,” currently stands at 14 million views, an additional six million added through her VEVO channel. Also during the charting week, on Nov. 20, she released her first book, “My Crazy Beautiful Life,” no doubt aiding her buzzy social status.
RE-START THEM UP: Also re-entering is the Rolling Stones, which returns to the tally at No. 46. Conversation about the band last week was driven by its No. 19 debut on the Billboard 200 chart with its new greatest hits album “GRRR!” and the act’s accompanying 50th anniversary concerts.
VEVO was the Rolling Stones’ primary force driving gains in the tally, as the band uploaded several videos containing historical footage, each earning more than 100,000 views and causing a swing in traffic to its other videos (1.6 million total views for the week, a 249% increase).
Facebook also helped drive the re-entry, as a 56% gain in conversation on the platform ushers in 58,000 new fans to the Stones’ fanbase (a 50% increase over the previous week). Other platforms saw growth as well, including Twitter (6,400 new followers, a 25% increase) and YouTube (6,300 new fans). The band’s Wikipedia page drew significant traffic as well, with 250,000 people (a 70% increase) coming to the site to search for Rolling Stones information.
MINAJ HEADS BACK TO TOP 10: Nicki Minaj re-enters the top 10 at No. 9 (20-9) after releasing the music video for “Freedom.” It has since racked up more than 5.5 million views. She added 255,000 fans this week to her overall fan base — a 100% increase over previous week. Facebook primarily drove the rise, where she added 184,000 (173% more than the previous week). Facebook reactions increased 119% in combination with the page’s heavy promotional efforts directed towards the deluxe reissue of her album “Pink Friday: Romand Reloaded” album, dubbed “The Rep-Up.”
As for the rest of the top 10, PSY continues his downward trend (4-5) while Justin Bieber climbs 3-2. Meanwhile, Rihanna is back at No. 1 (2-1) for the first time since August, following the hype generated by her globetrotting 777 promotional tour. Her chart rise also comes at the same time she released her “Unapologetic” album, which became her first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart this week.
Elsewhere, One Direction slides 1-3, Taylor Swift jumps 5-4, Adele rises 9-6 and Bruno Mars rallies 11-7. Katy Perry’s ranking decreases (7-8), as Pitbull gains ground and returns to the top 10 (14-10).
