In an unchanged top four on European Top 100 Albums, Keane’s “Under The Iron Sea” (Universal Island) leads the survey for a third week. In the United Kingdom, it falls 1-2 but sells a further 45,000 units for a three-week total of 347,000 copies, according to charts compiler the Official U.K. Charts Co.
“Sea” holds at No. 2 in Holland and enters at that position in Greece, dipping 3-5 in Spain and 3-4 and 4-9 in the Belgian regions of Flanders and Wallony respectively. After a North American visit last week, Keane are back in Europe to play in Paris tomorrow night (July 7), followed by dates in Madrid and Barcelona on July 14 and 15.
With the Keane album pursued, as last week, by current hit titles by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Shakira and Nelly Furtado, the highest new entry on the pan-European survey, at No. 6, is “Liberation Transmission” (Visible Noise), the third album by Welsh rock band Lostprophets. That’s after a chart-topping start in the United Kingdom, on sales of 55,000.
It’s the first No. 1 album for the five-piece act, which reached No. 44 there with its 2002 debut “TheFakeSoundOfProgess” and No. 4 with the 2004 follow-up “Start Something.” The new set includes the single “Rooftops (A Liberation Broadcast)”, which reached No. 8 in the United Kingdom last week.
Also debuting in the Europe-wide top ten after a chart-topping start in a major market is Toronto-based quartet Billy Talent’s “Billy Talent II” (Atlantic). The album also enters at No. 46 in the United Kingdom, where the group is currently on a tour that continues tonight at Northumbria University.
A self-titled debut set for Capitol by 15-year-old German rock-pop vocalist LaFee enters Top 100 Albums at No. 10, after starting at No. 1 in Austria and No. 2 in Germany. It includes the singles “Prinzesschen” and “Virus.”
Pussycat Dolls’ “PCD” (A&M) jumps back 26-11 on Top 100 Albums. The album climbs 23-7 in its 42nd week on the U.K. chart, where it is certified double platinum (600,000 shipments).
It’s also up again 13-10 in France. Interest in the album is spiked by its latest singles success. “Buttons” featuring Snoop Dogg climbs 38-6 on Eurochart Hot 100 Singles, and rises 11-3 in the United Kingdom. The single opens at No. 4 in Ireland.
Italian star Tiziano Ferro starts at No. 14 on the aggregate album chart with “Nessuno E’Solo” (Capitol), which is new at No. 1 in Italy and No. 3 in Switzerland. Ferro also enters the Italian singles chart at No. l with “Stop! Dimentica.”
The last of five new titles in the top 20 of Top 100 Albums, at No. 18, is “La Septieme Vague” (RCA) by Laurent Voulzy. The set has a No. 1 start in France and climbs 13-1 in Wallony. The 57-year-old French singer and writer is known both for his successful solo albums and collaborations with singer-songwriter Alain Souchon.
“Hips Don’t Lie” (Epic) by Shakira featuring Wyclef Jean leads the Eurochart for the fifth consecutive and seventh aggregate week. It moves 2-1 in the United Kingdom where cumulative sales, during three weeks on physical release plus one more as a download, total 94,000. The track is also No. 1 in Ireland and Wallony and climbs 3-2 in Italy and Holland, 4-3 in Hungary, 7-5 in Greece and 7-6 in France.
The highest new entry on the Eurochart, at No. 10, is “Diras Que Estoy Loco” (Globomedia) by 23-year-old Spanish singer-actor Miguel Angel Munoz. The track climbs 97-3 in France.
