Starbucks is getting “eclectic” in a collaboration with California radio station KCRW for “Sounds Eclectic: The Covers Project.” The 15-track compilation features performances from R.E.M., Robert Plant, k.d. lang and Damien Rice and will be sold exclusively at select Starbucks locations starting March 13.
Material for the set was culled from the station’s revered live show “Morning Becomes Eclectic,” hosted by music director Nic Harcourt. A portion of sales will aid the station’s effort to digitize its music library.
“The Covers Project” also includes M. Ward’s version of David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance,” the Flaming Lips’ rendition of “Knives Out” by Radiohead and the Magic Numbers’ take on Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love.”
