Stateside fans will once again be graced with two KCON USA events this summer, event organizer CJ E&M announced Thursday (March 15) at South by Southwest.
During a panel titled “How K-pop Grew Beyond Niche,” CJ E&M America’s COO Angela Killoren announced that the Korean pop culture event will head to the East Coast for KCON NY in Newark, New Jersey, on June 23-24, and then hold a second event in Los Angeles for KCON LA on August 10-12. In its seventh year, KCON 2018 USA will once again be part convention, part music festival, and highlight a variety of Korean cultural entities, including K-pop, Korean food, and esports.
KCON 2018 NY will once again return to Newark’s Prudential Center, while KCON 2018 LA return to the Staples Center and the LA Convention Center.
Last year, KCON USA, described by CJ as a “Korean Youth Culture Fandom Event,” saw over 128,000 fans attend the LA and NY-area shows, and this year’s edition is expected to similarly see a high turnout. The 2018 event will see an added focus on Korean beauty, and will continue KCON’s tradition of bringing numerous South Korean musicians, entertainers, and industry insiders.
