To supplement the swelling interest of K-pop in America, KCON is growing. The U.S.-based convention devoted to all things K-pop culture will boast two separate nights of concerts. KCON says more artists will perform at the Los Angeles fest compared to their 11 last year.
And if the previous two years are indication, this means even more stars for fans to meet. KCON has been unique in hosting meet-and-greets, photo opportunities and autograph signings for lucky fans in attendance. This in addition to celebrity panels, workshops and contests throughout.
Popular K-pop music chart program show “M COUNTDOWN” will also return to film another episode at the convention location at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena. Every week, around 15 Korean acts perform on the show to promote their current music projects.
Since the inaugural fest in 2012, KCON has continued to grow year-by-year as evidenced by this new announcement.
Kicking off in 2012, the fest began as a one-day event with six K-pop acts performing including 4Minute, B.A.P and EXO-M. Last year, the convention upgraded to a two-day affair, boasting 11 acts including EXO, Crayon Pop, 2AM and even Missy Elliott, who performed a special collaboration stage with fellow performer G-Dragon. Attendance doubled to 20,000 attendees last year.
KCON 2014 takes places Aug. 9-10 in downtown Los Angeles. The first artists to partake in KCON will be announced next week. Look out for more information to come soon.
