It’s safe to say these have been a wild few weeks for Katy Perry.
Amid hosting a 96-hour, Big Brother-esque live stream that culminated in a concert, the pop star dropped her fifth studio album Witness on June 9, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. And the singer has been snagging headlines since — whether it be for making history as the first to hit 100 million Twitter followers or, on Monday, releasing the lyric video for Witness single “Swish Swish.”
But not only does Perry’s new album gift fans her first new music offering since 2013’s Prism — it also lends remix artists 15 new beats to play with. Have a listen below, as Billboard Dance runs through the seven best remixes from Witness thus far.
Katy Perry feat. Migos – “Bon Appétit” (3LAU Remix)
We already knew 3LAU has a certain affinity for infusing new life into pop tracks, and this “Bon Appétit” remix is no exception. The rework elevates the hook’s instrumentals and adds a deep house shift, matching Migos’ guest spot to a new, bouncing club beat.
Katy Perry feat. Migos – “Bon Appétit” (MUNA Remix)
At the hands of MUNA, this original funky electronic track is transformed into a shimmering, soaring ’80s pop anthem that makes Perry’s cheeky food metaphors sound almost romantic. “Bon Appétit” might be a track for getting down in a dark club to, but here’s a remix you can roll down the windows to on the drive home.
Katy Perry – “Chained to the Rhythm” (Oliver Heldens Remix)
A fresh beat reels you in from the get-go on this “Chained to the Rhythm” remix, which brings a future house feel to Perry’s already disco-tinged track. Oliver Heldens takes the track’s title quite literally, dropping in an addictive, thudding metallic beat to accent the chorus.
Katy Perry – “Chained to the Rhythm” (Syn Cole Remix)
For this speedy rework, Syn Cole interrupts Perry’s vocals in the intro with a refreshingly bubbly, pitched-up beat that’s just as likely to get lodged in your head as the original chorus.
Katy Perry feat. Nicki Minaj – “Swish Swish” (Valentino Khan Remix)
“Swish Swish” deserves a remix as razor-sharp as its tagline, and this new take does just that. Here, Perry’s sugar-coated vocals in the intro are quickly offset by Nicki Minaj’s snappy bars, aggressive percussion and a deep bass line that dips into trap.
Katy Perry feat. Nicki Minaj – “Swish Swish” (Cheat Codes Remix)
This “Swish Swish” remix takes the opposite approach, laying down a buzzy, sun-splashed, high-pitched explosion of a drop to accent Perry’s fiery lyrical disses.
Katy Perry feat. Nicki Minaj – “Swish Swish” (Mark Pride Remix)
“Swish Swish” was destined for the club from the moment it hit the market, and this Mark Pride remix only seals the deal. Perry’s original confidence-boosting hit gets a new layer of dance-floor potential with a trippy, ascending club beat, sped-up vocals and a heavy bass wobble.
