Perry has four VMA wins under her belt and has performed twice on the annual show: “I Kissed a Girl” in 2008 and “We Will Rock You,” with Joe Perry, in 2009.
“Roar” was supposed to be released Monday (Aug. 12), but after it was leaked on Saturday the singer unleashed it to radio, where it was supported by hourly play on Clear Channel-owned outlets.
It’s the first single from Perry’s third studio album, “Prism,” which is set for an Oct. 22 release. The track made its bow at digital retailers at midnight today, and then saw its official lyric video premiere on YouTube and VEVO later this morning.
The song is already making an impact. “Roar” has debuted at No. 34 on the Nielsen BDS-based Pop Songs airplay chart. “Roar” will likely debut on this week’s Hot 100 chart somewhere in the lower quarter of the chart, according to Billboard analysis.
