Katy Perry has received an unlikely helping hand for a new remix of her current single “This Is How We Do”: RiFF RAFF, the oddball rap star whose infamous corn-rows Perry mimics in the remix artwork. Listen to the “This Is How We Do” remix below:
The explicitly summery single — Perry’s fifth from her PRISM album — is injected with some more unhinged energy and gonzo one-liners when RiFF RAFF, who released his Neon Icon album in June, arrives at the 1:50 mark. “Rap-game Ted Koppel in Versace boxers/I valeted the chopper on top a Red Lobster!” he spits like an insane person, about 20 seconds before next comparing himself to Larry Flynt. “This Is How We Do” is the PRISM single with the most zany charm, and Perry has aggressively paired the song with the hip-hop’s goofball king.
Perry is certainly unafraid of wedging in rappers on her pop singles: her sophomore album Teenage Dream had Kanye West crash in on “E.T.” and Missy Elliott take part in the remix to “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).” The only guest vocalist on PRISM is Juicy J, who appears on the No. 1 smash “Dark Horse.”
The “This Is How We Do” remix is aimed to generate interest in the single, which hops nine spots to No. 57 in its third week on the Hot 100 chart. All of PRISM‘s previous singles — “Roar,” “Unconditionally,” “Dark Horse” and “Birthday” — have entered the Top 20 of the chart.
