Don’t look now, but Katy Perry’s new single “Unconditionally” is becoming yet another hit for the singles superstar: the second single from “PRISM” moves up four spots to No. 21 in its third week on the Hot 100 chart, and up four spots in its fourth week on Radio Songs, to No. 14. Meanwhile, her eighth No. 1 single on the Hot 100, “Roar,” is still holding strong at No. 4 on the chart. That Katy reign just won’t let up.
But back to “Unconditionally”: the ballad is receiving a proper music video next Tuesday (Nov. 19), and on Thursday, Perry offered fans a 43-second preview of the clip, which promises to be decadent and dramatic:
Here’s what we know about the “Unconditionally” video: there’s a massive party that includes candelabras and a fainting couch (as all massive parties should); snow flurries will be integral, which makes sense, because it is autumn and winter is breathing down our necks; a stern-looking owl will flap its wings in slow-motion; and Perry will sing with all her might toward the camera, wearing gorgeous golden crosses as earrings and letting a wind machine tussle her black hair. “Let Go And Just Be Free,” reads some text in this teaser, and really, there’s no reason to not listen to that imperative statement.
For those unconvinced that “Unconditionally” has a chance to take hold of “Roar’s” torch and dominate Top 40: remember that Perry’s “Teenage Dream” ballad “The One That Got Away” also started relatively slowly, taking 10 weeks to eventually reach the Top 5 of the Hot 100 chart. Perry recently debuted “Unconditionally” live at the MTV EMAs, and may perform the track again when she opens the 2013 American Music Awards on Nov. 24.
