Last week it was announced pop art painter Mark Ryden was working with Katy Perry, Nick Cave, Tyler, the Creator and others on a limited edition record where each artist would do a rendition of the same popular 1890s song, “Daisy Bell (Bicycle Built for Two)”. Now, Ryden has shared those with ultra eerie videos accompanying.

The covers record is called “The Gay Nineties Old Tyme Music: Daisy Bell” and in addition to the names mentioned above also includes renditions by Kirk Hammett of Metallica, Weird Al Yankovic, Mark Mothersbaugh and Danny Elfman, among others. The song, “Daisy Bell (Bicycle Built for Two)”, was written in 1892 and later revisted in the 1968 film “2001: A Space Odyssey”, in which it is sung by the HAL 9000 computer.
Katy Perry, Nick Cave, Tyler the Creator Feature on Mark Ryden’s $100 ‘Gay Nineties’ Album
The covers album was released in conjunction Ryden’s new exhibit “The Gay 90s”, which opened May 3 at the Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles. It was printed on 180g red vinyl and limited to 999 copies, hand-numbered and signed by Ryden. Half of the records were sold at the show and the other half will be for sale on Ryden’s website starting Tuesday, May 13. The proceeds from sales — at $99.99 each — will benefit Little Kids Rock, a nonprofit that supports musical education in disadvantaged elementary schools.
Ryden recently painted the cover for Tyler, the Creator’s “Wolf” album, following years of working solely as a fine art painter. He is also responsible for the cover of Michael Jackson’s “Dangerous”, The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “One Hot Minute” and Aerosmith’s “Love in an Elevator” single.
