Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, M.I.A., Justin Timberlake and Gwen Stefani were among the music stars that took to the red carpet for one of fashion’s biggest annual events — the Metropolitian Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala — Monday (May 3) in New York.

Perry glowed — literally — on the Met Gala red carpet in a CuteCircuit dress with built-in LED lights, while Swift wore an elegant Ralph Lauren Collection gown and Timberlake — attending with girlfriend and actress Jessica Biel — wore a tuxedo from his William Rast line.
Also supporting her own designs was Stefani, who wore a L.A.M.B. gown and walked the red carpet on the arm of her husband, rocker Gavin Rossdale. M.I.A. merged high and low fashion in a design by Alexander Wang for Gap, while Janet Jackson wore cleavage-baring Lanvin and Jennifer Lopez wore a voluminous gown by Zuhair Murad.
Lady Gaga was also reportedly at the gala but did not walk the red carpet, leaving little photographic evidence of her attendance. According to New York magazine, the singer and fashion icon was delayed while preparing for her four-song performance at the event. Inside, however, Gaga took the stage in a sequined nude body stocking and spent the rest of the evening wearing a Prada business suit.

Among the other music stars who attended the Met Gala were Mary J. Blige, Diddy, Matt Morrison of “Glee,” Sean Lennon and Charlotte Gainsbourg. The theme for this year’s Met Gala was “American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity,” named after the museum’s new exhibit.
