“What would have been…” the pop star captioned the post, which shows off a side view of the dusty rose two-piece number, including a strappy, velvet cone bra and cover for her growing baby bump, tagging designer Jean Paul Gaultier.
The look is reminiscent of Madonna‘s iconic look, also designed by Jean Paul Gaultier, for the 1989 Blonde Ambition Tour.
The theme of this year’s exhibition, which is now scheduled to debut to the public in October, is “About Time: Fashion and Duration,” for which Perry’s homage to Her Madgesty would have been an ideal choice.
In recent years, the pop star has become a mainstay on the Met Gala red carpet, dressing in an avant-garde chandelier-inspired look at last year’s “Camp: Notes on Fashion” themed event (and resurrecting the hamburger costume she changed into once inside the Met for her cameo in Taylor Swift‘s “You Need to Calm Down” video), as well as serving as an honorary co-chair for 2017’s gala alongside Pharrell Williams.
