Effective Feb. 1, Katrina Southon will be the Senior VP, managing director of MTV Networks Australia and New Zealand, the music TV network said today.
Based in Sydney, Southon will succeed former MTV Networks Australia and New Zealand managing director Dave Sibley, who returned to his native U.K. last September to take up an executive position within parent company Viacom.
In her new role, Southon will work alongside MTV Networks Australia and New Zealand’s leadership team, comprising Rebecca Batties, GM, music brands and Comedy Central and Tom Armstrong, VP, business development and digital.
Southon will also sit on the board of Ignite Media Brands, MTV’s joint venture, stand-alone sales house.
For the past five years, Southon has helmed the affiliated Nickelodeon Australia broadcaster, and prior to that she served in various capacities including VP, Nickelodeon Europe in London and as senior director, Nickelodeon Network Operations, based in Singapore.
“Katrina is an accomplished and energetic TV executive who has grown the Nickelodeon Australia business to a multi-tiered network of channels and digital services aimed wholly at kids and their families,” notes David Lynn, executive VP and MD, MTV Networks U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, to whom she reports.
Southon will continue to oversee Nickelodeon Australia until her replacement is appointed.
