In the wake of Giuiiana Rancic’s comment about Zendaya‘s Oscars outfit on Fashion Police, the show’s newest co-host, comedian Kathy Griffin, has remained tight-lipped. With the series one host down after the departure of Kelly Osbourne, in a newly published interview Griffin is opening up about the Zendaya comment as well as Osbourne’s exit from the E! show.
Griffin spoke to the Chicago Sun-Times‘ Splash magazine and shared whether or not she would have made a similar comment to Rancic about Zendaya. In an episode last month, Rancic said the actress/singer looked like she smelled of “patchouli or weed” after debuting dreadlocks on the Oscars red carpet.
“Probably not. But I wouldn’t have said the joke in the first place. Some dude wrote it for her,” Griffin said.

She did offer some advice for her co-host. “Yes: Don’t have anyone write you jokes or even suggest jokes for you on Fashion Police,” she said. “You have enough great insider gossip from actually being on the red carpet. That’s what fans want to hear the next day. Just talk and be yourself.”
The interview comes the same week Osbourne appeared on The Talk and vaguely addressed the controversy as well as her plans now that she’s left the series. So does Griffin have any further insight into why Osbourne may have departed from Fashion Police?
“Jesus, I don’t know! Sometimes she seemed very upset at the merely seven tapings of Fashion Police we did together,” she said. “I can tell you this: I adore that family. I’ve spent the most time with Sharon. She is the real deal. Love her! Kelly came to my house a couple of times when Joan [Rivers] was in the hospital and we were consoling each other. I can tell you there was genuine love there. Oh, and of course, Ozzy is amazing.”
