YouTube darlings-turned-Top 20 auteurs Karmin have returned with a new single, “Acapella,” that will preview the duo’s forthcoming album on Epic Records.
“Acapella” finds Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan concocting more pop-rap with largely their mouths, which spit beats and lines like “Thought he was gluten-free/But all that I got was bread!” Heidemann’s rhymes slide over the rolling rhythms before she switches gears and laments her lost love on the chorus.
After racking up millions of YouTube hits with covers of Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass” and Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now,” Karmin scored an original hit last year with “Brokenhearted,” which peaked at No. 16 on the Hot 100 chart and sold 1.8 million downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan. “Brokenhearted” was featured on Karmin’s “Hello” EP, released in May 2012.
“Acapella” will hit digital retailers on June 25, and Karmin will join the Jonas Brothers on tour beginning July 10 in Chicago. The duo’s debut album has been pegged with a “late summer” release date.
