Held June 23-24 at Newark’s Prudential Center for the third year in a row, KCON 2017 NY is the East Coast leg of KCON USA, the world’s largest Korean culture convention and music festival. A similar event will be held in Los Angeles on August 18-20.
KNK is a five-member group who joined the K-pop scene last year. Immediately grabbing attention with their powerful performances and impressive covers of older K-pop acts, KNK’s first single “Knock” appeared at No. 18 on the World Digital Song Sales chart last March. The quintet’s first EP, Awake, landed KNK on the World Albums chart four months later, peaking at No. 14. The group released a second EP, Remain, last November, led by single “U.”
A 10-member act, UP10TION has been around since 2015, when they released their first EP, Top Secret. The boy band made a simultaneous debut in China and Korea with the release of their first single, “So Dangerous.” Over the years, they’ve explored a variety of styles with a particular focus on impactful, beat-driven dance tracks. In March, UP10TION’s first-ever Japanese single, the ominous electro-pop “ID,” went to No. 3 on the Japan Hot 100.
Both UP10TION and KNK are making their KCON debuts at the East Coast event in June.
The two male idol groups join other popular Korean acts CNBLUE, G-Friend, Highlight, SF9 and TWICE as part of the Korean culture convention’s headlining music festival.
Along with performances from musical acts, KCON 2017 NY will feature a variety of programming highlighting Korean pop culture exports, including Korean television shows, film, cosmetics, e-sports and more.
Tickets for KCON 2017 NY’s concerts go on sale May 12, while tickets to the convention will go on sale May 19. Additional acts for both KCON 2017 NY and LA will be announced in coming weeks.
