Another 18 K-pop stars will be heading to KCON 2018 NY this June. On Thursday (April 19), KCON USA announced the addition of Korean boy bands Stray Kids and NCT 127 to the East Coast leg of its annual Korean pop cultural event. The pair join previously announced acts Wanna One, Heize and EXID at the event, which will be held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on June 23-24.
Part of SM Entertainment’s larger NCT crew, 127 represents the Seoul-based team and features members from Korea, China, Japan, Canada and the U.S. Known for their dynamic performance-based songs, such as “Cherry Bomb” and “Fire Truck,” the nonet performed at both KCON NY and KCON LA in 2018. NCT 127 most recently returned with the upbeat and playful “Touch” off of the NCT 2018 Empathy album, which peaked at No. 29 on the Independent Albums chart last month.
Stray Kids is a newly formed group signed to JYP Entertainment, home to the likes of GOT7 and TWICE. With an EP and a mixtape already under their belt, the boy band’s gained a reputation for their hip-hop focused dance performances and their hands-on approach to K-pop, with several members of the act taking a dominant hand in writing their songs. Stray Kids have rapidly become a rising star in the K-pop industry, and peaked on the Social 50 chart No. 16 for the charts dated April 7.
Along with featuring two headlining concerts, KCON 2018 NY will also feature a convention featuring panels, a marketplace, and other related events and activities that highlight South Korean pop culture entities to local audiences.
Concert tickets for KCON 2018 NY go on sale Friday, May 11, at 3 p.m. ET, while tickets to the convention portion of the event will go on sale on Monday, May 14 at the same time.
