KCON USA added two K-pop acts to the KCON 2018 NY lineup on Thursday (April 26): Veteran boy band Super Junior and rookie girl group Fromis_9 will be heading to the East Coast in June, joining several other popular Korean artists during the annual event’s headlining concert.
The two acts will perform alongside Wanna One, Heize, EXID, Stray Kids and NCT 127 at the Korean pop culture festival, which will be held June 23-24 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Super Junior and subunit D&E previously performed at KCON LA in past years, but this will mark the group’s time appearing at the East Coast leg of the event. The legacy boy band, formed in 2005 and best known for their 2009 viral phenomenon “Sorry Sorry” and a variety of other hits, recently became the first Korean group to appear on the Latin Digital Song Sales chart with their Leslie Grace-featuring single “Lo Siento” from their recently released Replay, the extended version of last year’s Play album. Currently promoting with seven active members, at their height Super Junior featured 15 members between the main team’s 13, plus two additional Chinese members for Mandarin-language releases.
Fromis_9 is a newer act that was formed through Mnet’s Idol School reality show last year, where Super Junior’s Kim Heechul served as a guide and instructor. The group’s name, pronounced like “promise,” refers to “From Idol School” and the lineup’s nine members. Along with the pre-debut single “Glass Shoes,” the nonet released their first EP To. Heart in January.
More announcements regarding additions to the lineups for both KCON NY and KCON LA, which will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center and Staples Center August 10-12, will be made in the future.
Concert tickets for KCON NY 2018 go on sale on May 11 at 3 p.m. ET, while tickets for the convention portion of the event will go on sale May 14 at the same time.
