South Korean singer and actor Park Yoochun is under fire after reportedly testing positive for drug usage.
The Korea Herald reported on Wednesday (April 24) that the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency is seeking Park’s arrest after it received positive test results of methamphetamine usages from the South Korean National Forensic Service on Monday (April 22). The 33-year-old star recently came under suspicion due to a related case featuring his ex-fiancee Hwang Hana, who has said she used drugs in association with a celebrity acquaintance.
Following the positive test results, Park’s management agency C-JeS announced that it had terminated its contract with Park.
“We waited for the investigation results to come out while believing the testimony of Park Yoochun, who was an artist under our agency, but we feel terrible that we encountered such a result,” reads the statement, as translated by Soompi. “We came to a conclusion that we won’t be able to recover our relationship of [mutual] trust with Park Yoochun and decided to terminate the exclusive contract.”
The star held a press conference during which he stated that he would retire from the entertainment industry, which the company’s statement reiterated. A member of the trio JYJ, the group is reportedly expected to disband, according to the Herald.

Hwang’s drug usage, and Park’s in association, has been linked to the ongoing investigation into illegal activities and corruption that took place in alleged relation to the Seoul club Burning Sun. Several other high-profile Korean stars and other clubs are also involved in the investigation, which has unveiled widespread abuse and corruption revolving around entertainment, business, and law enforcement entities in relation to the club scene located in Seoul’s Gangnam neighborhood.
Park got his start in the K-pop industry in 2003 as a member of TVXQ! After leaving the act in 2009 amid a contract dispute, he and two other members formed JYJ in 2010. Along with being a singer, he also spent much of his career as a popular K-drama actor. The latest is his second high-profile legal case: in 2016, Park was accused of sexually assaulting multiple women. Though charges were later dropped, a lengthy legal battle has ensued and continues to the present day.
Billboard has reached out to C-JeS for additional comment.
