Getting to know someone is the most exciting part of any new relationship. That small spark in your stomach fans into a blinding fire of the heart, but the beat-skipping first steps are the most innocent and magical of all.
Justin Caruso gets with his friends Cappa and Ryan Hicari to capture the feeling of an innocent crush on his latest tune “More Than a Stranger,” a song that sees him try a new style on for size and his first release from his new label Nine Twenty Two.? A simple piano intro bleeds into a beat-driven hook built on vocoders and rhythmic acoustic guitar. It’s never assaultive, always cool, like a first-time come on should be.
“Creatively, I wanted to take a different approach on this song than my usual sound,” Caruso says in an emailed statement. “You’ll notice right away when the song begins the ‘jazzy’ element I brought to it. The song to me is about two people finding each other in a crowded place and having an immediate connection that literally makes everything around them irrelevant and only has them focusing on each other.”
“More Than a Stranger” is the first step in a new adventure for Caruso, and he says he couldn’t be more excited to continue to release on his label. The tune is out now on Nine Twenty Two. Fall in love below.
