Justin Bieber‘s had enough of haters coming at him for his appearance, and he took to Instagram on Wednesday (Jan. 8) to reveal that he’s been diagnosed with Lyme disease.
“While a lot of people kept saying justin Bieber looks like shit, on meth etc. they failed to realize I’ve been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease, not only that but had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my, skin, brain function, energy, and overall health,” he wrote alongside a screenshot of a TMZ article reporting the news.
“These things will be explained further in a docu series I’m putting on YouTube shortly.. you can learn all that I’ve been battling and OVERCOMING!! It’s been a rough couple years but getting the right treatment that will help treat this so far incurable disease and I will be back and better than ever NO CAP.”
Lyme disease, according to the American Lyme Disease Foundation, is an infection carried by deer ticks caused by the Borrelia burgdoferi bacteria. It manifests in a human bit by the tick as a “multisystem inflammatory disease that affects the skin in its early, localized stage, and spreads to the joints, nervous system and, to a lesser extent, other organ systems in its later, disseminated stages.” It is, however, a curable disease if treated in its early stages.
The crooner noted that he will go more in-depth on his diagnosis in his upcoming 10-part YouTube Originals docu-series, Justin Bieber: Seasons, premiering Jan. 27.
