Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj and dozens of dancers go swimming and get wild after dark in a waterpark for his new “Beauty and a Beat” video, which debuted Friday (October 12).
The video opens with some of the “personal footage” that was supposedly stolen from Bieber and his tour manager during a show in Washington state. “In October of 2012 three hours of personal footage was stolen from musician Justin Bieber,” the video opens. “The following footage was illegally uploaded by an anonymous blogger.”
The “hacker” has been tweeting back and forth with Bieber for days, leaking bits of footage and threatening to release more. Today he premiered Justin’s video, after the pop star tweeted, “Since I was 14 I have had a lot of things said about me, from dying, to taking hormones, to dying again, to stuff about my family, to saying I had a baby with a woman I never even met. Nude pics, drugs, my family, my character… but today… today I get to be in on it.”
As “Beauty and a Beat” opens, we see Bieber schooling someone in ping pong, watch childhood footage of the 18-year-old superstar, and then go behind the scenes at a video shoot, before Bieber takes control of the camera and the song begins.
The new video is all about having fun and embracing youth, and dozens of young adults play games, dance, and dive through the water as Bieber sings, “Just forget about the world, we’re young tonight.” He even takes his choreographed dance moves into the pool, diving underwater — and taking the camera with him — before emerging with a splash.
Nicki Minaj shows up for her verse three minutes into the song, dressed in pink fur and tulle, staying just long enough for a quick grind with Bieber and a line about keeping an “eye out for Selena.”
