You don’t wake up one day a legend. You work hard for the title, put in years of commitment and contribution, and after decades of tireless, joyful dedication, you earn the recognition and respect of generations.
Junior Vasquez is a true legend of the New York City house music scene, and on Sept. 2, he celebrates his 70th bithday with a rare performance at Teksupport, alongside opening sets from Joseph Capriati and Hex Hector, and he needs you to fill the dance floor and bring the boogie.
Vasquez’s story begins with his move to New York City in 1971. Inspired by DJ Larry Levan and his Paradise Garage, the hopeful fashion designer, born Donald Mattern, adopted his famous moniker in the 1980s and began spinning and producing his own records. Soon he was producing and remixing for Madonna, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Prince, the Pet Shop Boys and more. In 1989, he co-founded the club Sound Factory with Christina Visca in in the Chelsea District, cementing his place as one of the city’s driving house forces.
You can celebrate the life and times of Vasquez while he spins the best in era-spanning house and techno on the Teksupport dance floor Monday, Sept. 2. Tickets are on sale now. Check the official flyer below.
