With four nominations each, indie rockers The Jungle Giants and post-goth outfit RVG (aka Romy Vager Group) lead the pack for the 12th AIR Music Awards, the annual celebration of Australia’s independent music community.
Melbourne’s RVG is in the hunt for breakthrough independent artist of the year; best independent album or EP; best independent hard rock, heavy, or punk album; and best independent single (all for A Quality Of Mercy via Our Golden Friend), while Brisbane’s Jungle Giants earn a nod for best independent artist, a category that also features Alex Lahey, Baker Boy, Jen Cloher and Stella Donnelly.
More than 40 recording artists make the cut for this year’s list of nominations, announced Tuesday (April 17). Winners will be announced July 26 at the Australian Independent Record Labels Association’s ceremony, which will take place at Adelaide’s Queen’s Theatre.
Trade body AIR organizes the awards and the Indie-Con Australia Conference, to be held July 26 and 27 at Adelaide’s The Hindley.
Nominations for best independent label will be revealed soon, organizers say. Visit Air.org.au for more.
