Juanes will promote his 2008 U.S. tour in a pair of TV spots for Sprint, along with a contest at music site Batanga.com, beginning Feb. 18.
The Sprint commercials will run on Univision’s broadcast and cable networks, as well as on Telemundo, Azteca, mun2 and other channels.
Playing off the title of his latest album on Universal, “La Vida … Es Un Ratico,” the wireless carrier in one commercial invites fans to submit videos of what they would say if they had a “ratico” (moment) with Juanes. The two-minute videos will be posted to Batanga.com. The grand prize winner will receive an all-expense-paid trip to a Juanes show, and a meet-and-greet with the artist.
The other spot depicts Juanes’ everyday “raticos” before taking the stage (like the pop star scrambling eggs for breakfast).
A total of 35 shows are planned for the first U.S. leg of Juanes’ “La Vida World Tour 2008,” which begins at New York’s Madison Square Garden on March 6. The tour is sponsored by Sprint and Ford.
