On the eve of the release of boyfriend Jason Derulo’s new single “Marry Me,” Jordin Sparks was spotted covering up a giant, sparkling diamond on her left hand — you know, the engagement finger.
“No I don’t, I don’t have anything on my hand,” Sparks said coyly on the red carpet alongside Derulo, sticking her tongue out as Derulo thanked his fans for making his single “The Other Side” his latest top 5 hit.
“Marry Me,” released Monday on YouTube and iTunes, is the second single from “Tattoos,” a collection of songs that will be released as an album in the UK but now an EP in the United States on Sept. 24. Explaining the last-minute shift in strategy, Derulo said, “I know the fans they wanted something here and I wanted to give the fans at least something other than just the single. So I’m doing the EP and then the album will come out shortly after that.”
Sparks, meanwhile, is prepping her own return to music. Earlier this month, she posted new song “Skipped A Beat” to her SoundCloud page, the expected lead single to her much-anticipated follow-up to 2009’s “Battlefield.” Sparks confirmed that RCA was still her label partner and that was waiting for them to “figure out the budget stuff” for a music video “so I can get this done, and hopefully that will come out as well.”
For a better idea of Sparks’ musical direction, look no further than Ariana Grande’s “The Way,” which Sparks co-wrote and was spotted singing along with as Grande performed it during the VMA pre-show. “I wrote this about you,” Sparks said to Derulo. “I was just going off what I was feeling. I was super inspired by him and it just all kind of came tumbling out and her team heard it and she absolutely played it. And it’s been playing everywhere, so thank you Ariana! And it’s been crazy, too, it went top 10 which I wasn’t expecting, so I’m really excited. I’m a songwriter now!”
